It's been bleedin' marvellous
Article Abstract:
The BBC television soap opera 'EastEnders,' which is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary, was the first bi-weekly serial planned by the BBC. It has now become a key part of BBC schedules, but was a contentious venture when it was first discussed, as multi-episode soaps had previously really only been produced by ITV. The series has been successful mainly because its characters caught the public imagination right away, and has also been helped by strong interest from the tabloid press.

Thinking in the second-chance saloon
Article Abstract:
In a number of cases recently, playwrights have put on plays which contain themes and characters already encountered in one of their earlier plays. The genre is becoming known as 'second-chance' drama, and is particularly associated with Tom Stoppard and Simon Gray. Both have a history of playing with their own plays, and this approach sheds new light on the traditional interpretations of 'originality' and 'theatricality.'
