James Michener
Article Abstract:
Writer James Michener had a very poor childhood, and this gave him a life-long lack of interest in material things. He lived a very modest life, despite his great wealth, and gave most of his money away. He won a scholarship to a Quaker college in 1929, and was greatly involved in educative work before the second world war. He won the Pulitzer at the age of 40 for 'Tales of the South Pacific,' his first book of fiction.
