Jazz queen trumpets beginning of a new era
Article Abstract:
The big band musical form exists in many different places, so does not feel at all restrictive, according to composer and arranger Maria Schneider. Her 18-piece band has recently completed a five-year run of Monday night performances at Visiones in New York, NY, and she is now to make her debut in the UK. She will appear at the Barbican in London, England, as part of the 'Inventing America' season, and will lead the Danish Radio Orchestra. She feels that her big band music forces players to get inside the piece to make it really successful.
