Jean Malaquais
Article Abstract:
Writer Jean Malaquais ran away from home after obtaining his high-school diploma in order to escape the oppressive atmosphere of the ghetto in Warsaw, Poland. He took a number of jobs, and began studying French literature and language on his own in Paris, France. His literary style was based on the very expressive language to which he was exposed when working as a miner in the 'Java' lead and silver mine in Provence, France. He was captured by the Nazis during the second world war, but managed to escape, eventually reaching Venezuela.
