Barriers John Platts-Mills was born in Karori, New Zealand, in 1906. He studied law at Victoria University College, Wellington, New Zealand, and gained a Rhodes Scholarship to Balliol College, Oxford, England, in 1928. He was called to the Bar at the Inner Temple in 1932.
