Joshua Nkomo
Article Abstract:
Trade unionist and politician Joshua Nkomo studied in Durban, South Africa, before becoming a social worker for the Rhodesian Railway in 1947. He was Rhodesian Railways African Employees Association General Secretary from 1951. He became leader of the ANC, Southern Rhodesia's nationalist movement, in 1957, and was subsequently exiled. He returned to Salisbury, Rhodesia, in 1964, and was held under restriction or detained until the mid-1970s. He was co-founder of the Popular Front in 1977, and was eventually co-Vice-President of Zimbabwe between 1990 and 1999.

Sir Robert Southey
Article Abstract:
Politician Robert Southey was studying Classics at Magdalen College, Oxford, England, when the second world war broke out. He enrolled in the British army, even though he was born in Australia, and served in North Africa and Italy. He completed his studies after the second world war, and returned to Australia to join the company William Haughton. He became very involved in politics, and in 1970 was elected Federal President of the Liberal Party. He was also Chmn of the Australian Ballet between 1980 and 1990.
