Welcome death of a Great African Dictator
Article Abstract:
Many ordinary Nigerians are greatly relieved at the death of military ruler General Sani Abacha. He promised when he came to power that he would prepare the country for democracy, but in practice he turned out to be completely opposed to democracy. He showed himself to be sadistic and psychopathic, and never expressed guilt or remorse. He failed to heed advice, and had little understanding of the needs of ordinary people. He ignored a request from the Pope for the release of political prisoners, and made ordinary people very frightened.

The damaged women of Africa
Article Abstract:
The practice of female genital mutilation still takes place routinely in the remote Kapchorwa District of Uganda. Female genital mutilation is often portrayed as being inflicted on teenage girls by chauvinistic men who wish to control female sexuality, but there is another angle to this practice. Women are actively involved, with many feeling that mutilation is good for women. In many cases, they become more strongly in favour of mutilation, regarding attempts to stop the practice as unwelcome interference in their culture.
