Lie that ignited a national scandal
Article Abstract:
The scandal surrounding President Bill Clinton's alleged affair with Monica Lewinsky broke in Jan 1998. Clinton initially strongly denied having sexual relations with Lewinsky, but independent prosecutor Kenneth Starr decided to ascertain whether Clinton had a case to answer. It became clear that there was evidence of an affair, and Lewinsky was eventually persuaded to give evidence after being guaranteed immunity from prosecution. This prompted Clinton to agree to testify voluntarily. Impeachment proceedings were initiated against him, but few believed that the impeachment process would run its course.

Jury on the Hill takes up positions for the trial of the century
Article Abstract:
President Bill Clinton has become only the second US President ever to be impeached. He now faces a Senate trial, but the White House is working very hard to strike deals that would ensure he would not be removed from office. Clinton has insisted that he will complete his term, and has hinted that he is seeking a deal. It is widely believed that the Senate does not really wish to remove Clinton from office, and would therefore be willing to consider a plea-bargain.
