Politician Neil Carmichael was born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1921. He studied at the Royal College of Science and Technology and served in technical arms during the second world war. He joined the Engineers Dept of the Gas Board in 1949. His first job in government was as Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Transport.

Lord Cledwyn of Penrhos
Article Abstract:
Politician Cledwyn Hughes was born in Holyhead, Wales, in 1916. He studied at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, and served in the RAF during the second world war. He became Labour MP for Anglesey in 1951.

Teacher and politician John Mackay was born in Tayvallich, Scotland, in 1938. He studied maths and physics at Glasgow University, and worked as a teacher before becoming Conservative MP for Argyll in 1979.
