Lower death toll helped Saddam
Article Abstract:
The figure for Iraqi soldiers killed in the Gulf War has been revised downwards thus explaining how there were enough troops left for Saddam Hussein to quel uprisings. The number killed is put at about 8,000 with a maximum figure of 15,000, which correlates well with body counts by the US Air Force and the empty beds in Iraqi hospitals. Much of the army fled before the ground attack, but after the war Hussein had sufficient troops to crush the Kurds and Shia Muslims.
