E.J. Scovell
Article Abstract:
Poet Edith Scovell was aware of a sense of otherness from an early age. She was brought up in the Church of England, but failed to develop any religious faith. Instead, she began to take a mystical pleasure in nature and turned to agnosticism. She began writing poems as an undergraduate at Oxford University, England, but did not publish 'Shadows of Chrysanthemums' until 1944, when she was 37. Further volumes were published in 1946, 1956 and 1982.
