A.L. Rowse
Article Abstract:
Historian Alfred Rowse read for a degree in History at Oxford University, England. He studied extremely hard, and this led to the development of a duodenal ulcer. He was to suffer with this condition from time to time for the rest of his life, and it affected everything he did. He mainly focused on 19th and 20th century history at that time, and in 1931 published his first substantial book, entitled 'Politics and the Younger Generation.' He later became an expert on 16th century history.

John Harvey
Article Abstract:
Architectural historian John Harvey was initially trained by his father, who worked for the Ancient Monuments Board, and by architect Sir Herbert Baker. He was a consultant architect to Winchester College from 1947, and in 1949 became part-time Investigator for the Ministry of Public Buildings and Works. He gained a strong reputation for his expertise in medieval architecture, and became the greatest British historian of Gothic architecture in the 20th century.

Jill Allibone
Article Abstract:
Architectural historian Jill Allibone studied at St Martin's School of Art and then at the Courtauld, where she specialized in Gothic art history. Her PhD supervisor was Sir Nikolaus Pevsner, through whom she developed close links with the Victorian Society. She was a member of the South Westminster Bench for more than 20 years, and had a wide range of other interests, including the countryside and buildings of Kent, England.
