Making a crisis out of the drama
Article Abstract:
The recent attack by playwright Andrew Davies on the BBC's recent drama productions has further fuelled the controversy ovr television drama and the function of the BBC. Within this debate, a number of issues, including the ratings performance of the BBC and the recent reorganisation of the BBC drama department, have become interwoven, and it is difficult to establish the BBC's successes and failures in changing market conditions. Furthermore, Davies' remarks must be seen in the context of criticising the mistakes made by ITV in its drama productions.

Adverse conditions
Article Abstract:
Wendy Cope's poetry incorporates the forms parody, complex traditional verse, poetic one-liners, and poems about broken love. Her first collection 'Making Cocoa for Kingsley Amis' was funny but about deeply felt emotions. She gives public readings where her poems 'Bloody Men' and 'Men And Their Boring Arguments' are extremely well received by women. Her poems about men reflect her unhappy love life. Wendy was born to a middle-class family and became a primary school teacher for 15 years.

Molars, money and martyrdom
Article Abstract:
Novelist Martin Amis has been the subject of a lot of negative publicity recently. He has been criticised for demanding an extremely large advance for his forthcoming novel, and has been ridiculed for some aspects of his lifestyle. It is ironic that this negative publicity will very probably boost sales of his new book, ensuring that it does 'earn out' the very large advance.
