Back on the bench - for now
Article Abstract:
It would be fun to work in the House of Lords, according to outgoing Law Commission Chmn Dame Mary Arden. She is now returning to work as a full-time judge in the Chancery Division of the High Court, but some observers believe that she could become the first woman judge in the House of Lords. However, she does not wish to discuss the possibility of further promotion, emphasizing that she has not talked about promotion with the Lord Chancellor. She points out that Chancery work is much more varied than most people realize.

Charlie and the Enforcer
Article Abstract:
Moving away from doing a lawyer's job is liberating in some respects, according to Lord (Charlie) Falconer, who has been appointed Minister of State. He will work as Minister without Porfolio in the Cabinet Office alongside Jack Cunningham. He is very attracted to the prospect of doing something general. He believes that it was particularly difficult to make the transition from private practice to government, where teamwork is required.
