America's black women march in name of history, pride...and myth
Article Abstract:
The Million Woman March was held in Philadelphia in Oct 1997, following the Million Man March held two years previously. The men sought to atone for past sins, while the women sought to promote unity. The rally aimed to be inclusive and based on grass roots. Speakers included Maxine Waters, a California congresswoman, who talked about the theory that the CIA began a Los Angeles crack cocaine epidemic, and Winnie Mandela who is seen as a freedom fighter in the US.

American dreamers suffer from double vision
Article Abstract:
Ayn Rand, a Russian who lived in the US from her mid-20s, continues to be influential in the US. Indeed, her book 'Atlas Shrugged,' published in 1957, is still read by many people. She rejected the liberalism of the 1960s and everything associated with it, and called for emphasis on profit, industrialism and technological advance. Her views differ greatly from those of the religious right, as represented by the Promise Keepers movement.
