Message for our leaders: ignore Clinton's America
Article Abstract:
The political scene in the US is very different from that of the UK, but it is still a useful exercise to consider whether Bill Clinton more closely resembles Tony Blair or John Major. In most ways, Clinton is more like Blair, who too has the confidence of a winner. However, Blair would not wish to be compared too closely with Clinton, who has not really done anything significant to make his mark on US politics or society. Clinton has great technical skill as a politician, but has had very little room for manoeuvre in practice.

Don't just sit there, change something
Article Abstract:
Tony Blair, leader of the Labour party, and John Major, leader of the Conservative party, are determined to show that they are full of energy and ideas after the long summer break. They are aware that attention is now beginning to focus on the next general election, and are therefore very keen to increase their public support. However, they have still failed to really grasp the imagination of ordinary people, and must show much stronger leadership skills before doing so.

How does a real leader deal with rebels?
Article Abstract:
Labour party leader Tony Blair has taken a strong stand against rebellion within his party, and has not been afraid to deal with conflict on controversial issues. He has been trying to distinguish himself as being as different from John Major as possible, especially in humiliating Labour MEPs who opposed his reform plans. Recently, John Major has been seen a different light, taking a more calm and conciliatory approach.
