Watch out, Tony - the left fears the euro, too
Article Abstract:
It seems that UK Prime Minister Tony Blair has shifted away from his cautious attitude towards UK membership of European economic and monetary union. He now appears to be preparing the general public for early entry, rather than waiting until monetary union is actually operating before deciding whether the UK should participate. Blair is not necessarily wrong to reassess his approach to monetary union, but he should carefully consider the possible dangers associated with monetary union before doing so.

Mr Blair remains a cautious soul - and not without good reason
Article Abstract:
UK Prime Minister Tony Blair remains cautious about membership of European monetary union, and has not stated that he is unconditionally in favour of membership. However, the government is clearly shifting its position slightly, seeking to assess whether momentum towards European monetary union membership will influence public opinion to the extent that Blair will become willing to risk his authority on fully supporting UK membership. The government's rather illogical approach to this issue highlights its fear that popular scepticism about European monetary union is not disappearing.
