Mr Conran's fin de siecle
Article Abstract:
British designer Jasper Conran, 33, was known for low-key style but in 1993 prefers pattern and adornment. He likes the subtle pattern techniques of the 1930's. He can experiment more since Marchpole does his production. He is studying fine couture techniques to apply to modern clothes. He designs for the theatre and ballet using devore, or chemical embroidery, patterns. This inspires the more exotic items in his collection.

It must look good on people, as well as on paper
Article Abstract:
British fashion designers certainly have talent and imagination, but some fail to take into account how clothes will look when they are actually worn. They tend to be too heavily influenced by stylists, who put clothes and accessories together in ways which are very unflattering to most women. Instead, they should consider how clothes can be kept simple. This is the approach which will appeal most to ordinary women.
