Nation ruled by its divisions
Article Abstract:
Nigeria has a number of 'Big Men,' who have wealth, influence and contacts and are extremely powerful in their local area. This is particularly the case in northern Nigeria, which influences political developments in the country as a whole. The military regime is based on the north, and southerners are often seen as lazy. While the situation persists, Nigeria is likely to never really be able to introduce civil rule.

Nigeria's religions marching as to war
Article Abstract:

In the town of Kano, for example, Christian churches have been attacked and there has even been an open street battle between Christians and Muslims. Kano now has a reputation as a key centre of Islamic fundamentalism.
