Next century these children will be among the richest, best-educated and most successful people in the world. What makes the Chinese run?
Article Abstract:
Chinese people living in other countries have generally been very successful. This is particularly the case in South-east Asia, where the ethnic Chinese are the most prosperous single group. The success of the Chinese can be partly attributed to their emphasis on education and hard work, but these characteristics are also seen in other migrant groups. Some observers believe that Chinese people living abroad have benefited greatly from relying on their own resources. Chinese communities are adaptable and resilient, with strong internal support systems.

Last pit-stop for a class act
Article Abstract:
Racing driver Migel Mansell will have to reconsider the future of his career following his rejection by the Williams team. The only other team for which he may possibly drive is McLaren, but Ron Dennis, McLaren's manager, has never been a great supporter of Mansell. Great efforts are now being made within Formula One to find a place for Mansell for the 1995 season, as it would be a pity if the career of one of the most popular sports personalities in the UK had to come to such a sudden end.

War that set off an Asian earthquake
Article Abstract:
The Vietnam war ended only 20 years ago, but is already being seen as something that could no longer happen. To the US, it was a vital act in order to halt the advance of Communism in Asia, while some observers in the west regarded the US as the aggressor. In contrast, the US is now seen as a force for good, and is under pressure to intervene more rather than less. However, this does not mean that its decision to become involved in the Vietnam war was right.
