To succeed in print, get a tartan background
Article Abstract:
There is a thriving and extremely competitive newspaper market in Scotland. This means that anybody wishing to develop a career in journalism should seriously consider seeking work in Scotland. This strategy has been successful for Martin Clarke, who has edited several Scottish newspapers and has now been appointed by the Mirror Group to edit the Daily Record. Bob Bird also benefited from his time editing the Scottish version of the Sun, as he has now been appointed deputy editor of the News of the World.

Faltering printing presses of black America
Article Abstract:
The Chicago Defender is part of the African American press which has come under pressure as readers and journalists increasingly turn to the mainstream press. The Amsterdam News is another example of a press that often has to function on a low budget due to low circulations and falls in advertising revenue. African American newspapers reached a peak in the 1930s and 1940s and attracted a large readership as well as being involved in campaigns for African American rights.
