No lovers, no mopeds, no smiling after 8pm. It's time to step on the cult of the pedestrian
Article Abstract:
It is possible to argue that creating pedestrianised zones in the centre of cities and large towns can actually have a negative impact. Such zones often have a very artificial atmosphere, and seem to be devoid of real life. Preventing traffic from entering the town or city centre simply makes arterial roads much busier, while the centre itself is deserted, especially at night. Pedestrianised zones are really only effective where people actually live in the town or city centre, which is generally not the case in the UK.

Holy smoke
Article Abstract:
The city of Turin, Italy, is frequently dismissed as having little to attract visitors. However, it actually has some magnificent buildings designed by 17th century architect, priest, mathematician, philosopher and playwright Guarino Guarini. These include Santissima Sindone, the chapel of the Holy Shroud. This features many tiers of filigree stone arches which are superimposed upon each other. The design emphasises space and light, and is clearly intended to be a representation in stone of Christ's resurrection.

A better class of purgatory
Article Abstract:
Richard Branson has provided a new type of airport lounge at Heathrow's Terminal Three for the Upper Class passengers on his airline Virgin Atlantic. The Clubhouse is an attempt to dispel the boredom of the traditional airport lounge with comfortable furniture, a bar, videos and other amusements. There are facilities for chess, libraries of second-hand books and much art and Art Deco on display. Massages are available although complete rest and silence is not.
