Tsar removes rival to his uneasy crown
Article Abstract:
It is widely believed that the main reason why Russian President Boris Yeltsin decided to dismiss Prime Minister Yevgeny Primakov is because he felt threatened by him. Primakov had gained widespread support among ordinary people because of his handling of the economy, and he had started to be seen as the most likely successor to Yeltsin. It proved impossible for Yeltsin to accept that Primakov was growing in stature and authority.
