One of life's black comedies

Article Abstract:

American pro-life campaigners extended their operations to London, England, where they felt the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) was at the root of abortion. British pro-abortionists were demonstrating outside the IPPF and police tried to prevent a clash. Pro-life speaker Katharine O'Keefe accused IPPF of eugenics. The pro-abortionists, who believe in freedom of the individual, draw a distinction between a foetus and a baby. The anti-abortionists base their argument on conception. Both groups ignore the complex issues of modern life.

Why Major should heed the press

Article Abstract:

The UK press had started to be seen as more powerful than the government, with Conservative MPs reported to be afraid of leading editors. The press began to fill the power vacuum left by an ineffective government, and newspapers started to comment widely on the private lives of public figures. However, this may have changed following the recent battle for the leadership of the Conservative party. Almost all right-wing newspapers were critical of John Major, and this stance proved mistaken. They must now reconsider their position.

John Major ate our monsters

Tim Bell and Max Clifford are agressive public relations men who deal in stories, true and false. They supply journalists needing information to keep them in work. Their techniques involve cunning and street wisdom. Their stories are rarely checked. They rely on triviality to bring politics, culture and life down to a matter of representation, exploiting the general public's ignorance. John Major does not endorse them, to the detriment of his image.
