One woman's equality is another's poverty
Article Abstract:
Many more women now work outside the home, but this has not led to greater equality in society. People tend to marry or cohabit with people of roughly the same social status, which means that the gap between the richest and poorest households simply grows larger. Low-paid dual earning households must still do their own domestic work and rely on relatives to look after their children, while high-paid dual earners can afford to pay for domestic services such as cleaning and child minding. The domestic service economy is thus expanding rapidly, but is bringing with it problems with job insecurity, exploitation and lack of regulation.

Don't ram duty down young throats
Article Abstract:
Labour party leader Tony Blair has recently started to place considerable emphasis on the concept of 'duty,' stating that people can only enjoy rights if they fulfil their duties. This has placed him in a difficult position, as focusing on a core defining philosophy of duty will not gain him much popularity among the young people to whom he particularly wants to appeal. Indeed, emphasising duty is more likely simply to attract a moralistic minority.

Germaine's desperate bid for attention
Article Abstract:
Germaine Greer's recent attack on fellow feminist columnist Suzanne Moore was based more on generational conflicts than on any differences in their ideology. Greer's criticism was mainly aimed at Moore's appearance, rather than at her feminism. Her attack seems designed to attract attention to herself and to further her career, and was not really motivated by any really dislike for Moore.
