Article Abstract:

The two main television channels in Russia, Ostankino and Russian Television, have broadcast advertisements since the end of communism, but politicians interfere with broadcasting and pirating is rife. The Motion Picture Association of America stopped exporting its films to CIS states in June 1991. Many VHS copies of Hollywood films were sold cheaply in street markets. Minister for press and information Judge Mikhail Fedotov organised a cultural credit scheme and a new copyright law will be passed in Feb 1993.

Article Abstract:

The increasing use of PC-compatibles for work at home leads to the availability of more games software for PCs. There is a wider range available than there is for dedicated games consoles. Specialist shops have knowledgeable sales staff and several magazines offer advertisements for games through mail-order. Many popular games have violent themes. There are flight simulation and sports simulations, adventure games and abstract puzzles.
