Orange to buy chunks of talk time in Europe
Article Abstract:
Orange, the UK mobile phone operator, is wanting to launch a service in continental Europe by buying call time from established mobile-phone operators. The plans is to buy billions of minutes of airtime worth millions of pounds over a ten year period. Orange would then be able to introduce its own tariffs and extend its brand name across Europe. In return, the network operator would enjoy a guaranteed revenue over a long period which it could use to borrow money against, then it would be able to improve their network. Orange is known to be talking with major mobile operators from France and Germany. Orange could also link with existing operators to bid for third generation mobile licenses in the next few years. Orange has lost ground on its competitors such as Vodafone. They have already built an extensive world network by bidding for licences in other countries
