Are U.S. nontariff barriers retaliatory? An application of extreme bounds analysis in the Tobit model
Article Abstract:
Bayesian analysis is integrated into the Tobit model to examine the case of retaliatory nontariff barriers (NTBs) in US trade policy. Extreme bounds are set to measure the retaliatory factor as an offensive weapon to discourage foreign protectionism. Bilateral US NTBs indicated a substantial retaliatory component against its major trading partners such as Japan, France and Germany.
