Pan, who and what art thou?
Article Abstract:
There have been many different interpretations of J.M. Barrie's play 'Peter Pan,' which was premiered in Paris, France, in 1908. Indeed, the play can be regarded as a form of model against which each generation can assess changes in relations between children and adults and in concepts of innocence. The National Theatre in London, England, is shortly to stage a revival of the John Caird and Trevor Nunn version of the play that was extremely popular in the early 1980s. This intersperses the published play text of 1928 with sections from Barrie's other versions.

Article Abstract:
A new musical Stephen Sondheim musical entitled 'Passion' is soon to open at the Queen's Theatre in London, England. This is set in Italy in 1863, and has as its main subject an unrelenting, unqualified love. This is an unusual subject for Sondheim, but in some ways it could be seen as not really being a departure from earlier works. Indeed, Fosca, the heroine, is the latest of many obsessives who have featured in Sondheim musicals.

A tricky double act
Article Abstract:
Leading South African playwright Athol Fugard plays both a white man and a black man in his new play, 'Valley Song.' He accepts that he will probably be widely criticised for playing a black man, but believes that moving between two identities is a significant way of portraying the changes which are currently taking place in South Africa. He sees himself has playing a key role in creating a new South Africa.
