Passing power to the pupils
Article Abstract:
There is growing emphasis among educationalists in the UK on ways of preparing today's learners for the future. There is particular emphasis on self-directed learning, shifting away from teacher-directed approaches. Schools are now being encouraged to produce children who are eager to learn and know how to do so. Self-direction is seen as playing a significant role in improving standards, as well as giving children appropriate personal and learning abilities for the future, when it is likely that everyone will be expected to assume more responsibility for themselves in all areas of life.
