Peru's hot, Turkey's cold as fashion for holidays grows ever more fickle
Article Abstract:
The UK travel industry is reporting significant divergences from the usual trends in summer 1999. Britons are no longer travelling in such large numbers to destinations such as Greece and Turkey, preferring instead to visit more unusual places, such as South Africa and South America. Air fares to South America are very low, and there is particular interest in Peru, Argentina and Brazil. Independent travellers are now rejecting Thailand, and some could be turning instead to eastern European destinations such as the former Soviet republic of Georgia.

Rome's secrets unwrapped
Article Abstract:
It is worth visiting Rome, Italy, before the year 2000, which is a Holy Year and will therefore attract many visitors to the city. Rome will be less crowded than usual in the run-up to the year 2000, and it is also possible to fly there very cheaply from the UK. Key attractions include the Piazza Navona, where Bernini's marble sculpture 'Fountain of the Four Rivers' is exhibited, the Pantheon and St Peter's Colonnade.
