Playing for time
Article Abstract:
Evegny Kissin is a pianist who studied at the Gnessin School for Gifted Children, Moscow, Russia. He was improvising on the piano at the age of three years, though he never enjoyed practising. He played his first concert in Moscow, Russia, when he was 10-years-old, with a solo recital following a year afterwards. He argues that he would be a tour guide or journalist if he were not a musician, since those careers also involve discovery. He will be the first pianist at the Prom concerts in London, England, to perform a solo, in Aug 1997.

Mind over marimba
Article Abstract:
Music should always be allowed to rise above the instruments on which it is played, according to Uffe Savery, who with Morten Friis makes up Danish percussion group Safri Duo. Notes should be interpreted as music in themselves, not depending on the character of a particular instrument. The music produced by Savery and Friis has a very large element of musicality, and they clearly play right from the heart.
