Power with strings attached
Article Abstract:
Wooden tennis rackets are still used in 1992 but the majority of players use metal rackets which give more power. Metal rackets were invented in the 1920's but the first notable use of one was by Jimmy Connors in 1967 using a Wilson steel T2000. Since 1982 boron, fibreglass, graphite and Kevlar have been used to strengthen epoxy resin glue frames. The ball can be propelled faster and the racket can be swung more quickly because it is lighter: 9 7/8 oz-13 oz. Further power was produced by the widebody racket which was invented by Siegfried Kubler in Germany, producing the Resonanz R-50 in 1985.

Pursuers of pace pay price in pain
Article Abstract:
Modern tennis rackets, made from boron, graphite and fibreglass, are powerful because of their stiffness, but this causes arm injuries. Shock absorption is less than in wooden rackets and tennis elbow, which can last for two years, is increasingly common. Professional players do not need the power available from a widebody racket but need more control. Recreational players require power from their racket but should try out a demonstration racket before purchase. Tuition and timing can reduce injury. Slacker stringing tension spreads shock and reduces arm injuries.

A parting that plays on the heart-strings
Article Abstract:
It is very common for arguments to take place between parents and children. In most cases, the conflict is resolved, but some parents disown or disinherit their child. This can create long-term psychological problems for the child. In some cases, the feeling of rejection can start at a very early age, especially if the child is abandoned by his or her natural parents. In other cases, problems can emerge in adult life.
