Climatologist Hubert Lamb came from a family where there was strong interest in science, and this had a significant effect on his education. He began studying natural history at Cambridge University, but later switched to geography. His time at university formed the basis upon which he built his interest in climate and in climate-human interactions. He began working at the Meteorology Office in 1936, and later came to be regarded as the greatest climatologist of his time.

Paul Vigoureux
Article Abstract:
Metrologist Paul Vigoureux was born in Mauritius. He studied Electrical Engineering at the City and Guilds College in South Kensington, London, England, and then undertook postgraduate study. He established a long research career at the National Physical Laboratory and at the Admiralty Scientific Service. He made important contributions to the units of electricity and magnetism, especially to the shape and introduction of the International System of Units.

Professor Edward Hall
Article Abstract:
Archaeological scientist Edward Hall was born in London, England, in 1924. He studied Chemistry at New College, Oxford, England, and then chose Physics for his DPhil. He played a key role in the creation of the Research Laboratory for Archaeology and the History of Art at Oxford.
