Professor Tom Keightley Ewer
Article Abstract:
Veterinary scientist Tom Keightley Ewer played a key role in ensuring that animal behaviour and welfare became part of the veterinary curriculum in the UK. He was actively involved in animal welfare issues, and became a founder member of the Farm Animal Welfare Advisory Committee. He was greatly respected internationally as a veterinary educationist, and did a great deal of political work in Bristol, England. He tackled new challenges in old age, including water-skiing and skiing.

Dame Olga Uvarov
Article Abstract:
Veterinary surgeon Olga Uvarov was born in Moscow, Russia, in 1910. She was orphaned during the 1917 Bolshevik revolution and spent the rest of her childhood in London, England, in the care of her uncle. She qualified in 1934 and joined Glaxo in 1953 to undertake research into animal medicines.

Sir William Henderson
Article Abstract:
Veterinary virologist and administrator William Henderson was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1913. He qualified as a veterinary surgeon in 1935, and in 1939 joined the staff of the Animal Virus Research Institute in Pirbright, England.
