Ray Daniel

Footballer Ray Daniel was a key figure in Welsh football during the 1950s. He was taken on by Arsenal football club while still an amateur in 1946, and won the first of his 21 full caps against England in 1950. He did not gain a regular club place until the 1950 to 1951 season. He gained great respect for his ability to combine creativity with powerful, solid football. He lost his place in the Welsh team in 1957, and later played for minor clubs.

Jack Rowley

Footballer and manager Jack Rowley signed for Wolverhampton Wanderers on leaving school. He failed to play a senior game for this team before leaving for Bournemouth football club in 1937. He was soon sold to Manchester United, marking the beginning of an impressive career. He served in the army during the second world war, but returned to a high-profile position at Manchester United afterwards. He won his first full England recognition in 1948.

Jimmy Scoular

Footballer and manager James Scoular signed to Portsmouth football club in 1945, playing a key role in this club's title triumphs in 1949 and 1950. He moved to Newcastle United in 1953 for 22,250 pounds sterling, proving a great motivator of an ambitious team. He was a key player at Newcastle United throughout the 1950s. He moved to Bradford Park Avenue as player-manager in Jan 1961, and finally retired in Feb 1964, at the age of 39.
