Reaping the benefits of the technological revolution
Article Abstract:
Latest technological developments can bring great advantages, but also have the potential to cause significant problems for certain population groups. It is therefore necessary for the UK government to adopt a new political programme which encourages radical technological innovation but also protests vulnerable groups. It is possible that the best way to protect them is to make change faster and more radical, thus ensuring that they feel the benefits more quickly.

Toll tales on the highway to prosperity
Article Abstract:
The British government is investigating electronic road tolls and has a pilot scheme at the Dartford bridge and tunnel. The London road pricing study will take three years. Electronic tolls could ease congestion and pollution and the income could finance research in road guidance systems. If these revenues went to new private companies they could be sold on the stock market to raise cash. Annual revenues might be about 50 billion pounds sterling.

Getting it right this time
Article Abstract:
A new method of economic forecasting, Bayesian Vector-Autoregressive (BVAR) is data-driven and predicts the future based on past observations without massaging. It is tested with data up to 1980 to give a computer projection of 1981. The current BVAR forecast sees recovery already established with a growth rate through the year at nearly 2.4% but worse inflation than conventional forecasting suggests.
