Revenge of the Hollywood wives
Article Abstract:
The film 'First Wives Club,' which stars Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn and Diane Keaton and tells of the experiences of divorced wives, has made a strong impact in the US. Critics have not be particularly impressed with it, but it is significant for the way in which it reflects modern social values, particularly the way in which men with a high social profile often drop their first wife for a younger woman as middle age approaches. The film is intended to be a comedy, but has prompted strong emotions, especially among the many divorced women in the US.

Teenage reporters put ghetto on map
Article Abstract:
LeAlan Jones and Lloyd Newman are still only in their teenage years, but have gained a strong reputation for reporting on events in Chicago's South Side, where there are many social and economic problems. Unlike most of their contemporaries, they have not been sucked into drug taking and crime, as they were adopted in 1993 at the age of only 13 by David Isay, a New York radio producer. They have since won a number of awards.
