Revenue may fine 400,000 for late returns
Article Abstract:
The second deadline of July 31 1998 for the completed of UK Inland Revenue tax self assessment forms looks like being missed by thousands of people, which will be on top of the 775,000 people who missed the January 31 deadline. Fines are being levied on those who are late in delivering their tax forms, something that has angered many tax agents who claim that the Inland Revenue has supplied inaccurate information to many people about their tax situation. Fines totalling GB 77.5mn were imposed on those that missed the January deadline and further fines of GB 40mn are likely to be faced by those that miss the July date.
