Rich Pakistanis flock to country's first ski resort
Article Abstract:
Malam Jabba, the only ski resort in Pakistan, has two pistes and a 52-room hotel. It is situated in a very remote region, where in many places the central government has little effective control. The resort, which formally opened in autumn 1998, has not made any money so far, but resort manager Bakhtiar Hussein is confident that it will soon become profitable. Some observers believe that public funds should not have been used to construct a ski resort in a country where many ordinary people are illiterate and where there is a shortage of clean water.

Falling with the snow
Article Abstract:
The middle aged can sometimes be rather reluctant to consider learning to ski, fearing that they will not be able to cope and will humiliate themselves. However, they generally soon learn the basics of skiing, and most will reach intermediate status by the end of a full week of instruction. When considering learning to ski, it is important to take into account factors such as the distance from the hotel to the ski lifts when choosing a resort.

Yad Moss: the St Moritz of the north
Article Abstract:
The Yad Moss ski resort near Alston, England, offers very attractive snow conditions. It usually snows at least some of the time between Nov and Feb, and the snow surface is kept completely intact by the constant cold and the fact that it is often not very windy. The resort is situated in dramatic Pennine landscape, and is in an area that attracts few visitors. It has a drag-lift that can tow 500 skiers an hour up the 600 mt gradient.
