SA planned chemical war on blacks
Article Abstract:
South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission has been hearing evidence indicating that the South African government planned to use chemicals against blacks in a number of ways in the 1980s. One research programme looked at whether hallucinogenic drugs could be mixed with teargas and used for riot control, while another sought to identify a bacterium that would sterilize blacks without affecting whites. It has also come to light that the US and the UK asked the apartheid government to keep its biological warfare technology from Nelson Mandela's government.

Kenya's saviour or white mischief-maker?
Article Abstract:
Richard Leakey has recently started to spearhead a new political movement which partly aims to clean up Kenya. He is speaking out strongly against lawlessness in the country, and has also criticised police brutality and the standard of public health facilities. He has already gained a strong following as an international conservationist, and has the support of many black Kenyans. However, his fellow whites tend to see him as arrogant, and believe that he will not be successful in politics.

Military opponents preen and pose on Panmunjom border
Article Abstract:
The 150-mile demilitarised zone between South Korea and North Korea is the last Cold War frontier in the world, with 1 million armed men being deployed on each side. Relations are still strained, and there are frequent cases of troops being shot at. New political realities have started to change North Korea's foreign relations on a general level, but on the ground the situation remains much as it was when an armistice ended the Korean War in 1953.
