Article Abstract:
Many UK museums are now placing increasing emphasis on entertainment in order to attract more visitors, especially children. Some observers feel that these museums are abandoning the serious task of education in order to make their exhibits more acceptable to visitors who are accustomed to being constantly entertained. It may now have become necessary for museums to take steps to distinguish themselves from theme parks and commercial science centres.

It is becoming increasingly widely recognized in the UK that continuing education is vital if businesses are to be able to maintain and improve employees' skills. Many employees are also seeking more support for education at work. Trade unions can play a vital role in continuing education initiatives such as the University for Industry, and education is now becoming a significant bargaining tool between unions and employers.
