Sex, murder and philosophy
Article Abstract:
Louis Althusser, the famous French marxist philosopher, has achieved more fame with his posthumous autobiography 'L'avenir dure longtemps' than with any previous book. He describes his personal life, insecurity and fraudulence. He writes that he read few of the thousands of books he possessed and copied ideas and invented quotations in his papers. He strangled his wife, Helene, while seriously depressed, but was not subjected to trial because of his standing. He remained in clinics, where he continued writing, until he died in 1990 aged 73.

James Stewart
Article Abstract:
Actor James Stewart had a successful career in US films over four decades, even though he had few of the characteristics usually associated with a film star. He came from a modest background, and retained some traces of the countryside early in his career. However, he established a strong reputation in sophisticated comedies and thrillers. His most memorable work resulted from collaboration with film-makers Frank Capra, Mann and Hitchcock, but he won his only Oscar for his role in George Cukor's 'The Philadelphia Story.'

Was it grief or was it glee?
Article Abstract:
Many people find it exciting to communicate very bad news. This was clearly seen in relation to the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, in Aug 1997. Nobody wished her to die, but it was also impossible to deny that her death was extremely interesting. Communicating bad news can bring a welcome change to everyday life, and it is easy to become caught up in the details of terrible events, even while feeling genuine sympathy for those involved.
