The ads that broke the mould
Article Abstract:
Volkswagen has gained a very strong reputation for the very high standard of its advertising. Its advertising always closely reflects society at that time, and has proved very effective in remaining in consumers' consciousness. The company's innovative approach to advertising was pioneered by Bill Bernbach, who was extremely unusual in advertising in the 1950s in being Jewish and from a working class background. He was very influential in putting a strong element of creativity into advertising.

End of the road for AUG 1
Article Abstract:
The UK government has announced plans for a new vehicle registration system. New-style number plates, which will be issued from Sep 2001, will identify cars by town and region. They will be issued twice a year, avoiding the rush to purchase a brand new car in Aug which takes place at present. The yearly change of number plate will be abandoned as an interim measure in 1998. Car manufacturers and dealers have welcomed the fact that sales will now be spread more evenly throughout the year.
