Article Abstract:
Islamic preacher Sheikh Mohamed Mutwali Sharawi graduated from Al-Azhar, Egypt's official church and the seat of Islamic learning and Arabic literature, in 1941, and received his teacher's qualification in 1943. Towards the end of his life, he claimed not to have read a single book since 1943 except the Koran. His preaching played a significant role in shifting Egyptian society towards being Islamic, closed, conservative and often xenophobic.

Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Baz
Article Abstract:
Islamic cleric Abdul Aziz bin Baz became blind at the age of 15 as the result of a disease. He became an Islamic Judge in 1938, and in 1952 became a teacher in the Religious Institute in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In 1953, he became a lecturer at Riyadh University, and in 1963 became head of the Council of Ulema and Chief Mufti. He established a powerful position in Saudi Arabia, ruling on many social aspects of daily life there.

Aisha Abdul-Rahman
Article Abstract:
Islamic scholar and writer Aisha Abdul-Rahman received her primary and secondary education at home, but gained a number of diplomas by correspondence. She began studying Islamic history and Arabic literature at King Faud University at the age of 21, graduating in 1939. She rapidly became very well known through her writing for Al-Ahram, and became Egypt's most influential female Islamic writer and scholar.
