Sir Patrick Reilly

Diplomat Sir Patrick Reilly gained Firsts in Mods and Greats at New College, Oxford, England, and was first elected Fellow of All Souls in 1931. He entered the Foreign Office in 1933 at the age of 24. He was attached to the Secret Service for several years during the second world war. He was an Under-Secretary dealing with intelligence and defence issues during the period 1950 to 1953, and his first embassy of his own was Moscow, Russia, where he served between 1957 and 1960.

Ophthalmic surgeon Harold Ridley was born in Kibworth Harcourt, England, in 1906. He studied at Pembroke College, Cambridge, England, and was appointed to the consultant staff at Moorfields Eye Hospital in 1938.
