Sir William van Straubenzee

Politician William van Straubenzee served in the Royal Artillery during the second world war, becoming a Major. He qualified as a solicitor in 1952 and became a partner in a firm of solicitors, but was already involved with the Young Conservatives. He was National Chmn of the Young Conservatives from 1951 to 1953, and was made a member of the Conservative Advisory Committee on Policy in 1953. He was appointed MBE for political services in 1954. He served on the Richmond Borough Council from 1955 to 1958, and in 1959 was elected to Parliament for Wokingham, England.

Politician Cranley Onslow was born in Bexhill, England, in 1926. He joined the 7th Queen's Own Hussars in 1944 and then studied at Oriel College, Oxford, England, and at the University of Geneva, Switzerland. He became an MP in 1964.
