Skis as baggage: what a carry-on
Article Abstract:
It has now become common for UK tour operators to make an additional charge for carrying skis and snowboards on their charter flights. However, there are mixed views about whether this charge is really justified. Airport handling services do not make an additional charge to tour operators for handling large amounts of skis and snowboards, and the way in which fuel charges are worked out with regard to additional weight is uncertain. However, it is clear that those passengers who do take skis and snowboards are responsible for additional fuel consumption.

Seduced by an Arctic roll
Article Abstract:
The ski resort of Riksgransen, located 150 miles inside the Arctic Circle in Swedish Lapland, opens in mid-Feb and closes in late Jun. This resort is particularly attractive to snowboarders because of the dips and peaks of its off-piste area. The pistes, which are mainly easy reds, all go down a north-facing slope into the extremely large valley. The ski area has one two-seater chair lift, along with one-three seater and four drag lifts.
