Forget tonight, what will you be doing on New Year's Eve 1999?
Article Abstract:
Almost all venues which are regarded as suitable places to celebrate the coming of the 21st century have already been booked for the evening of Dec 31, 1999. These include the Royal Albert Hall, Tower Bridge, Disney World and Madame Tussaud's. British Airways plans to charter seven aircraft for celebrations to mark the new century, and there has been strong interest from potential passengers. However, it seems that only those with plenty of money to spare will now be able to book a high profile venue for Dec 31, 1999.

You're an embarrassment
Article Abstract:
It has become increasingly common in the UK for scandals involving the sons of celebrities to receive extensive media coverage. It seems that children are now likely to embarrass their parents, rather than parents embarrassing their children, as was usually the case in the past. The Duke of Marlborough, for example, has been forced to disinherit his heir, Jamie Blandford, who has been involved in crime and drug-taking. It appears that the sons of celebrities inherit some sort of predisposition to rebellious behaviour.

A week that rode on a roller-coaster of emotion
Article Abstract:
The death in a car crash in Paris, France, of Diana, Princess of Wales, was met with an unprecedented reaction among ordinary people in the UK. Vast numbers of people have paid their respects in person, and hundreds of millions will watch her funeral on television. The Royal Family seems to have been taken by surprise by the depth of public emotion, and has come under strong pressure to share more openly in the grief of ordinary people.
