So farewell then, Mary Poppins
Article Abstract:
There are now around 30,000 nannies in the UK, and they are no longer used only by upper class families. They work in a very sensitive situation, having to be careful not to replace the child's mother and sometimes dealing with parents who are jealous of the time she spends with the child. They are encouraged to become 'part of the family,' but realise that they cannot get too close, as they do not tend to spend their entire career with the same family, as was common in the past.

A ride to heaven and hell
Article Abstract:
The elevator is one of the strongest cultural symbols of the 20th century, combining nightmares and fantasies and arousing feelings both of anger and awe. Latest computerised elevators try to create an impression of control, but passengers are still left helpless if it breaks down. Elevators have been used for many different dramatic purposes in films and books, and it is these incidents which people often recall when they travel in an elevator.

You're a hypocrite, and you know it
Article Abstract:
Many people express disgust when politicians or other leading public figures are discovered to be behaving hypocritically, but most ordinary people are prepared to compromise their beliefs too when necessary. They express concern about pollution, for example, but are unwilling to cut down on using their car. They claim to love animals, but still buy leather clothes, and cannot resist the temptation of a company-funded health scheme.
